The European Language Gazette, the ECML's e-newsletter, provides up-to-date news about the ECML (events, projects, resources), the Language Policy Unit and other relevant sectors of the Council of Europe, as well as our partners. It focuses on national developments in the field of language education in the member states and beyond.
One student rolls two dice four times: one to choose the person in the situation, another one for the action, a third one to decide on the place, and finally a fourth one to determine the time. Focus on grammar first by having the student come up with a grammatically correct sentence that describes the situation. The variety of time references, for example, will demand different tenses and aspects (and situations can change drastically due to this!) Different prepositions will be needed, too, for the different places.
ELT abounds in technical terms - some of them from linguistics, others from language teaching methodology or educational theory. In this section of The ELT Notebook you'll find a glossary of the most common terms with definitions, examples, and, where relevant, extra information and follow up reading. In this glossary you can search for the terms you want either alphabetically or by topic.

English for Academic Purposes Special Interest Groups
Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
BALEAP launched three Special Interest Groups (SIGs) at the 2018 AGM. The SIG themes were chosen after consultation with the membership through a survey in 2016. The SIGs, and the accompanying Special Interest Pages (SIPs), are very much in an emergent state and we will further involve members in their development at every stage. There will be some activity related to the three existing SIGs at the next BALEAP conference in Leeds, so keep an eye out for information and publicity in the coming weeks and months. The membership will be further surveyed with regards to the future roll-out of SIGs, and the exec committee would welcome your ideas for future SIGs . We will be reporting further on the SIGs at the next AGM at Leeds and will collate any comments or suggestions that we receive before then to present at that meeting.

Challenges in Teaching ESP: Teaching Resources and Students’ Needs
A Scientific Paper
Abstract
This paper examines the effectiveness of the available ESP textbooks with special reference to the Legal English ones. It analyzes both textbooks published abroad for ESP learners as well as those created by the Romanian specialists in the field and evaluates the degree to which they meet the learners’ needs and expectations. The aim of this paper is to provide several suggestions for improving the quality of these resources, as well as to propose some ways of combining the available resources in order to make them really useful instruments for developing the language skills that the ESP learners need in order to face the challenges of the labor market.
